Nautical Location:
Old Point Comfort: 37 degrees N/76 degrees 19'W 
- From Thimble Shoal tower on the Lower Bay it is about three nautical miles to the tip of Old Point Comfort.
- A series of shipping channel markers will direct you southwest (and deep water).
- You will see the Chamberlin Hotel as you approach the point. Follow point to south end (look for warning signs near the rotting pilings of the old steamer docks).
- At point's SW corner, turn North, leaving to port flashing green #1 and the entrance for the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
- OPCM is opposite flashing green #3.
- Enter at the North end of the wave screen.
- Water depth at mean low water:  15'.

Old Point Comfort Marina Landmarks: 
You can't miss the ten-story Chamberlin Hotel and the Old Point Comfort lighthouse! The hotel currently is undergoing renovation. Be especially cautious of the vast seawall repair project currently underway along the bay (east) side of Fort Monroe. The marina is on the east side of the channel 0.4 miles above Old Point Comfort.

Marina Services and Amenities:

General: 
Boat ramp, Laundry/shower facility, sewage pump out and dump station, indoor wet slip. Thumper's Restaurant is located above the Marina.

Ship's Store:
Offers boating supplies, fishing bait & tackle, fresh water, salt water and boat fishing licenses, snack foods, beer, wine, soft drinks and ice, souvenir T-shirts and hats. We will gladly special order boating parts and supplies if items are not in stock; often we can offer one-day turn-around.  Bait: Bloodworms, minnows, night crawlers, shrimp, and squid (when available).

Fuel Dock:
Offers gasoline and diesel fuel at prevailing market price. Pumped by marina staff. Click here for link to current fuel prices.

Transient boater Services:
Transient boaters have at their disposal all services offered to regular slip renters.  

Liveaboard Policy:
Liveaboards are not authorized at OPCM. "Liveaboard" is defined as "person(s) using vessel as residence or overnight accommodations between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for more than two (2) days out of seven (7) maximum per month."

Old Point Comfort Marina
Boat Rental Program Overview

Old Point Comfort Marina (OPCM) offers for rent two 20’ Privateer Roamer Center Console Fishing boats equipped with 90 horsepower engines. The vessels are equipped with a VHF radio, life jackets, throw cushion, and a first aid kit.

You do not require a Virginia Saltwater Fishing License while operating an OPCM vessel. OPCM has purchased Saltwater Recreational Fishing Licenses from the Virginia Marine Resources Commission. These licenses cover anyone utilizing OPCM vessels.

New Safety Requirement:

All customers taking check rides this year must successfully pass a boating safety course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). This includes courses offered by Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries (Boat Virginia) and courses offered by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary or U.S. Power Squadrons. Also available are NASBLA-approved internet-based courses. Most are free and are listed as links below. You must have a copy of this certificate in-hand prior to taking the OPCM check ride class. No exceptions! In order to maintain OPCM rental boat eligibility, currently certified OPCM customers have until June 30, 2008 to turn in their boat safety certificate.

BY VIRGINIA LAW, THIS COURSE IS A REQUIREMENT FOR ALL BOAT OPERATORS.

Boat Rental Fees and
Reservations Process

Check Ride: $9  

This safety class / check ride is mandatory and must be successfully completed prior to operating an OPCM-owned vessel. The class is required regardless of previous boating experience or boating licensure. This is an insurance requirement. Class size is limited to four (4) patrons, and check rides are valid for five (5) years from the date of issuance. Please contact OPCM for current check ride information.

Rental: $12.50 per hour plus fuel    

Boats are rented in two-hour time blocks. A maximum of two (2), two-hour time blocks can be reserved per day, per party. Reservations may be made no earlier than five (5) days in advance.

Rental Blocks:

Weekday:
Block 1: 9 - 11 a.m.
Block 2: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Block 3: 2 - 4 p.m.

Weekend:
Block 1: 8 - 10 a.m.
Block 2: 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Block 3: 1 - 4:30 p.m.

Boat Rental Restrictions:

Age Requirements: Boat operators must be 18 years of age or older.

Passenger Requirements: Maximum passenger capacity of the vessel is four. In addition, no more than two children per adult are allowed on-board.

Operating Area: OPCM boats are authorized to operate within the following landmarks: the Fort Monroe pier to the north, the Navy ammo pier to the west, the high rise apartments at Ocean View to the south and Thimble Shoals Light to the east. These boundaries have been designated for your safety.

Authorized Personnel: Active duty and retired military personnel and their families; reserve military personnel; members of the national guard; foreign military personnel and their families; DoD/retired DoD personnel and their families; veterans with 100% service connected disabilities; DoD contractors working at Fort Monroe.
