Our Mission

Shaping the Next Generation

 

Goal:

To provide a safe, healthy environment that offers exciting recreational activities that reflect the interests of the youth and encourage creativity, positive self-image, character building and teamwork.

 

Philosophy:

School-Age program curriculum is designed to compliment, not duplicate school activities. We strive to introduce activities and events, which allow the children to explore the world and their interests in a fun way.

 

Before and After School

SAS provides childcare for youth grades 1st through 5th. A wide variety of activities are offered to include swimming, bowling, arts & crafts, cooking, science, homework assistance, technology lab, community service projects, character building, cultural awareness, mentoring and intervention programs, fitness programs, 4H and Boys and Girls clubs, fieldtrips, special events, and more.

 

School Year Hours of Operation:

Monday through Friday, 7:00-8:00 a.m. and 2:30-6:00 p.m. Snacks are provided daily. SAS operates from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Teacher Workdays, Inclement Weather Days, and School Holidays. Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided on these days. SAS is closed on federal holidays.

 

Transportation:

Hampton City Schools provide transportation for schools that serve Fort Monroe. SAS provides transportation for Asbury, Booker, Barron, Phillips, Gloria Dei and St Mary's elementary schools for an additional $25.00 per month.

 

Summer Camp:

"Summer Fun" provides full day care for youth grades 1st through 5th. Camp activities include swimming, bowling, arts and crafts, cooking, computer lab, sports, science, guest speakers, peer relations and character education. Weekly fieldtrips are planned with destinations such as Busch Gardens, Ocean Breeze Water Park, VA Marine Science Museum, and Portsmouth Children's Museum.

 

Summer Camp Hours of Operation

Hours of Operation: 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Breakfast, lunch and snack are provided daily.

 

Accreditation

SAS has been nationally accredited since June 2001 through the National Afterschool Association.

 

USDA

The SAS food program operates in accordance with US Department of Agriculture policies. Children will receive nutritionally balanced meals. All menus are approved by the Ft. Eustis MEDDAC nutritionist.

 

Fees

A sliding scale based on the total family income is used to determin fees.

  • Before school care: $23-$52/Month
  • After school care: $73-203/Month
  • Before and after school care: $87-$212/Month
  • Summer Camp: $73-$203/Week
